ABC Wins Election ‘08, CNN Sets Record
Nov 5th

More than 65 million people watched Election Night returns Tuesday on the main broadcast and cable news networks.
Early numbers had put CNN in the top spot for prime time Election Night coverage. TVNewser reports that the Preliminary Nielsen Media Research estimates show CNN topped the broadcast networks of NBC, CBS and FOX in Total Viewers, but did not beat ABC.
Among broadcast networks, ABC News with Charles Gibson broadcasting from New York’s Times Square won the night with 13.1 million prime time viewers, beating NBC News that broadcast from Rockefeller Plaza in New York with Brian Williams and Tom Brokaw. This is somewhat a surprise as NBC News is the home of the dominant evening newscast, ‘NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams.’
Here are the numbers from TVNewser:
In the A25-54 demo, CNN was the top rated cable network as well.
This was CNN’s highest-ever viewership in prime time.
