Why I Love Cleveland’s WJW Fox 8

While I don’t live in Cleveland, I still appreciate watching WJW Fox 8:

News from Ohio’s First

Well, it happened late overnight, but it looks like longtime Republican Congressman Steve Chabot has been defeated — after a 14 year tenure — by Democratic State Representative Steve Driehaus.

In the Second District, it looks like Republican Congresswoman Jean Schmidt has held off a second challenge from Democratic challenger Victoria Wulsin by a healthy 24,517 votes.

It is unfortunate fate that Chabot is out and Schmidt is still in. If a Republican incumbent had to retain their seat, Chabot is certainly the best of the lot. Perhaps Esquire Magazine said it best in its endorsement issue last month:

District 1
Cincinnati boy Chabot has never wavered from his belief that small government is good government, not even during his party’s fat years in the majority. Esquire endorses: Chabot

District 2
Jean Schmidt is the worst kind of partisan hack, driven by resentments and full of agendas that have nothing to do with governing. She and her cohort of fellow extremists are what happens when the pendulum swings too far to either side and gets stuck there for too long. The country should be rid of them. We endorse her opponent, who is a medical doctor.
Esquire endorses: Wulsin
